CELA Lifetime Membership

In honor of our 40th Anniversary, CELA members will have the opportunity to show their dedication and support of the organization by becoming a Lifetime Member. Lifetime Membership dues will help us continue to provide high-quality member programming, support our dedicated staff, and ensure that we can continue serving you, our CELA community, for the next 40 years.  Twenty (20) Lifetime Memberships will be made available for current members. The deadline to sign up as a Lifetime Member is December 31, 2026.

Lifetime Membership Benefits

Membership Dues

The cost of yearly memberships will rise over time. The Lifetime Membership will not be subject to these price increases and will pay for itself in about 20 years,

Conference Discount

Each year, you will receive a $400 discount on the annual CELA conference registration. This discount is non-transferable.

 

Member Recognition

You will be recognized in the annual Conference Journal, on the CELA website, and other ways.

Lifetime Membership Requirements

A CELA Lifetime Membership is available to current CELA Regular members in good standing with the State Bar of California and in practice over 10 years.  

Lifetime Membership Terms and Conditions

Non-Refundability: All Lifetime Membership dues are strictly non-refundable regardless of whether the member chooses to leave the organization or fails to utilize the offered benefits.

 

Non-transferability: Lifetime Memberships may only be used by the Lifetime Member and cannot be sold, transferred, inherited, or shared with another person or business entity. A Lifetime Membership cannot be converted into a CELA Marketplace membership. The $400 conference registration discount is non-transferable to anyone or any other CELA event.

 

Law Firm Limits: A CELA firm may purchase Lifetime Memberships for no more than two (2) of its attorneys.

Start Date of Lifetime Membership: The Lifetime Membership start date will begin once payment is received. No adjustments will be made to the Lifetime Membership dues, including prorating existing membership dues.

 

Revocation and Termination: CELA reserves the right to revoke a Lifetime Membership and ban a member if they violate any CELA policies.

 

Termination of /Ineligibility for Lifetime Membership:

  • State Bar Eligibility: If the State Bar of California deems a Lifetime Member not in good standing at any time during their membership, CELA will terminate that member’s Lifetime Membership. Members have thirty (30) days from the date of ineligibility to inform CELA staff of their change in bar status. However, if the Member becomes eligible again within a five-year window, they may contact CELA and request membership reinstatement, which is subject to Board approval.

  • Change in Practice: If a CELA Lifetime Member no longer qualifies for any CELA membership level (e.g. such as becoming a defense attorney or no longer practices plaintiffs’ employment law), or any other change affecting eligibility, that Member must inform CELA staff of this change within thirty (30) days from the date of ineligibility. However, if the Member becomes eligible again within a five-year window, they may contact CELA and request membership reinstatement, which is subject to Board approval.

 

Membership-Level Change: If a Lifetime Member has any change in CELA Regular membership status (e.g. change to Associate, Associate Plus, or Emeritus), that member remains a Lifetime Member but is subject to the loss of Regular membership benefits during the time of non-qualification of Regular membership.

 

Listserv Status and Conference Attendance: A Lifetime Membership does not ensure listserv access or conference attendance eligibility. Listserv access is dependent on CELA membership status. In addition, Lifetime Members must certify they meet conference attendance criteria to attend the conference.

 

CELA reserves the right to modify Lifetime Membership terms and conditions or terminate membership for violation of CELA policies.
